This is a place for discussing plans for creating things, if people have anything they need to work out, this would be the thread to work on.
Cool thread. I finished most of the Area Descriptions, I just have one left. And I also need to work on the Special Affinity Jutsus and Bloodline Magic Jutsus. I finished the basic Quests for Errands, Missions and Crimes but, I'm thinking about making some lower ranked crimes for players. Right now, the rule is that the lowest level is C-Rank. I think we need some D-Rank crimes.
I also want to do one example character and some example NPCs.
Ah, I am working on a Monk Clan for Shizuka Village, got some movement on it, but still working on fleshing out the idea. Going for a clan based upon the Night Parade of a Thousand Demons, and the mythology/historical inspiration from Feudal Japan of wearing masks for self empowerment and for disruption of the enemy. I have a few ideas for how to approach the techniques too.
Finally managed to get around to updating the Bloodline Magic. I just have to finish Bloodline Magic, then I'll work on Special Affinity Destruction Magic. Afterwards, I'll create 3 clans for Bloodline Magic and then finally, I'll create some sample characters to help people.
I'm still updating the rules for Health and Qi when it comes to character's.
Like what has been done to the template, also gave me a chance to fix some issues I had on my original post of it. I am realizing I need to also get a character template up, so that will be fun to figure out.
Hey, do you think more people would be willing to join the site if I made it less about stats? Perhaps if I took away HP and just left Qi instead? Just brainstorming. Overall, your Health and Qi will only be used during Quests, so I didn't think it would be that big of a deal.
I also haven't done much advertisements.
If you make it less a requirement, or something that is determined during the start of a quest, it might make things easier for the more casual or social role players. As for advertisement, it can be very hit or miss, you will just have to find someone who knows how that works currently, I would suggest Muse and I's mutual friend, as he knows a lot about how RP forum advertisements work. He also knows a few places that might work well.
I'll speak to him about it. To be honest, I wish I used a different software but, worst case scenario I might convert it to something else. For now, I'm just going to write the setting and events for the RP and then allow players to write their own stories. It seems like Health and Qi is a big problem for a lot of people though. I'll probably remove it from the template for now and I guess later, we will work on it. I'll talk to those two via Discord.
Sounds like a plan.
What do you think of the idea of getting rid of Health and just using a Qi count at the bottom of every post? Do you have any ideas for how we should go about combat on this site? I don't want that to be the main point but, I'd like to do some ninja battles from time to time.
In this stat system, we still have the four main attributes but, instead, at the bottom of every post, we leave our character's current Qi count? This way, it's a bit less math but, I wanted some math related in combat. That or we do a pure text-based combat system that has no rules and basically let's the user do anything they can think out of their imagination? I wasn't a big fan of the combat system for NRC and a few of the NRC spin offs that came along. I want to do something different but, I think for now, it'll be better if we find some kind of middle ground?
Personally, I have always been more a fan of free form, or if stats have to be in use, having them be minimally invasive. Stops the Roleplay from ending up being a text game. That being said, ultimately what you wish to do is fine and up to you. I am just here to support and try to get back into writing more.
We're keeping the basic stats just for combat but, I decided to keep Health and Qi count for the purpose of making this RP more story driven. I want there to be more than just combat but, I love shinobi battles and I feel like I got robbed of Kazekagehood in a rp battle on a site that was related to NRC but, got taken down pretty quick.
I still want to have a battle using the Clan Leader NPCs. The way I see it, the maximum amount you can have in any stat is 100. You get rewards for completing quests as well. This is just to make sure there is an end game. While the game is young, it will matter greatly as everyone struggles to reach the top but, by the time newer members get in, it'll be a bit easier because there will be more members.
I wanted there to be multiple Kage level characters in the game. I want us to write stories together and see if people can overcome obstacles with their characters. I have something interesting for everyone that likes text-based games. Try not to think about power but, at the same time someone who is a Martial Arts Specialist should naturally be physically stronger and more agile than a Destruction Magic Specialist or an Illusion Magic Specialist but, a Weapon Skill Specialist can keep up with Martial Arts Specialist in terms of agility but, not so much physical strength. Meanwhile, Destruction Magic Specialist and Illusion Magic Specialist have more Qi and are better at attacking from long or mid range.
The stats are there to give more depth to what a characters actual limits are instead of having something imaginary. I didn't want everything to be determined based on Rank and Specialization. It's just to say that 100 is the strongest you can get at something and if that person is a specialist in that area, they are most likely to beat you in that area.
EDIT/
Okay, so I've decided to go with the idea of a statless RP. I didn't want to clone NRC but, it's becoming like that. At least our templates are different. I'll spend time rewriting rules but, feel free to post your stuff. That's the first thing I'm going to change.
I was going to offer the idea of just using XP counters but, nevermind. There's also 4 more additional special affinities I want to add by default.
Being statless does not make it an NRC clone intrinsically, just makes it free form style. Plus even by the end, NRC had soft stats, and people who were pushing it for tons of stats.
The added will be interesting to see and probably will lead to possible changes in things to be posted soon. I figure what ever will be the end results will make things fun as long as the community ends up nicely built up, ya know?
I've decided to go with a statless RP because, there's already a Naruto RP that isn't statless and it's doing very well. For the most part, I'm going to go ahead and modify all of the templates. Right now, I'm paying off an enormous debt, so I won't be able to spend much time working on stuff. I'm going to rewrite the rules for Combat, Specialization and a lot of other things. I'm actually happy that we are going with a statless RP. Looking back, it's a lot better.
I'm also going to be adding some new Special Affinity Elements. This includes Dustbending, Bloodbending, Steelbending and Galebending. At some point, I wanted to incorporate some elements from Boruto, such as genetic human experiments and androids. I wasn't going to do this before but, I'm glad I did. The lore for this universe is a little different than the actual world of Naruto but, I'd like to see it as a good blend of things. I'll post a topic in the announcements forum when I'm done.
